I'm on Grammy Duty (my grandson calls me "Grammy")

Happy New Year! I hope this New Year will be fulfilling to all.

It has been quite a while since I have posted here, and my inspiration to post again comes from my grandson I call Do-da, or Baby DJ. He is now 3 years old, and very smart. He attends a Head Start school program now for a half-day, and then I pick him up and take care of him until my daughter gets off work.

Three years have gone by so fast… I just remember being in the Labor and delivery room with my daughter when he was born. It was an amazing, and precious moment, it really was!

He has grown up so fast

… three years old, wow!

He will tell you his favorite color is brown, and his favorite movie is Roll Bounce with Bow Wow as “X”.
My grandson first seen this movie while we were over a family members house visiting, and he was hooked on this movie. He jumped up and started dancing, and then pretended he was skating like in the movie. He wanted to see that movie over and over again.

He talked about that movie so much, and said he wanted some skates, so my daughter bought him some shoe skates and he was like a pro on these little skates rolling all around the house, and outside. Then on his third birthday, I bought him the Roll Bounce Movie, and my daughter gave him a skate party at a local roller rink and he skated around as if he had done this all his life. He was so excited! and all the kids at his party had a ball too.

About a week later, one of my daughter’s friends gave their child a skate party and she took him. He put on his skates, got on the rink, and started acting like he was “X” on the movie Roll Bounce… right down to his favorite part in the movie where “X” falls down (now he did this right in the middle of the skating rink and the skate guards rushed over to him thinking he was hurt, but my daughter let everyone know that he was just re-enacting that scene from the movie, OMG!). When my grandson does this particular scene, and he does it all the time, he wants us to play along and say the lines “X” friends say to him while he’s laid out after falling…mainly the part when the crowd says… “X”, “X”, “X”, “X”, ! It’s a sight to see! You have to see this movie, it is good.

On Christmas I bought him a real pair of black Chicago skates, and he said, “Oh, my momma bought me these skates” (a line that “X” said in the movie) and we fell out laughing because he was so serious when he said it, lol!

Well, enough said… here are some of his video skate performances, and yes he is only 3 years old, enjoy!

Congratulations Devon!

On this day my son Devon graduated from high school, and we are very proud of him!
As he walked across the stage to receive his diploma I couldn't help but to cry tears of joy, as I felt so excited about his great accomplishment, and as I looked around at other families gathered at the ceremony I know they were feeling the same way about their graduates as they shedded tears of joy as well. It was truly an amazing sight to see.

Grand-Ma Duty cont...

Lil Du-ba, is what I call him, and Gah-Ma is what he calls me, my grandson, or course.

Time has gone by so fast, since I first started Grand-Ma duty when he was just a handsome lil-o thing, with a head full of silky black hair, who needed me for everthing...
but now he's 16 months old, really smart, and already has his own little plans of how he wants things to be... yes, his way! Lawdy!

It's just incredible how fast he's grown, and the the things he's learned to do on his own. He off the bottle and holds his own sippie cup, he throws his own diapers in the trash, as he is being potty trained in the mornings, whenever I ask him if he wants to "go with me"...(Gah-Ma)he grabs his coat, and my keys if he sees them on the table, and heads towards the door, and he's already hook on computers (not phonics)* :). He has a fascination with my computer's keyboard lights, and clicky sounds it makes, and sometimes I let him push the buttons on the keyboard, and he gets this real serious look on his face, like he really know what he's doing while pushing those buttons, it's so funny! you would just have to see it. He has one of those v-tech laptops that he loves to carry around with him, but he definitely knows it's nothing like the real one.

*(although I must say that is an excellent reading program for children, I used it for my son when he was younger, and his reading skills improved greatly.)

It felt pretty good outside today, here in Michigan, so I took my grandson up to the park today,

and we went down the slide together a couple times, walked the plank, and I pushed him baaaack, and forrrrrth in the baby swings, and said, boo! every time and he just cracked up laughing like that was the funniest thing he'd ever heard, he was laughing so hard the other kids on the swings next to us started laughing too. He wanted me to keep pushing him, but my arms were getting so tired, you know it was time to go, I said, Du-ba, " we have to give the other kids a turn on the swings, we come back next time... he started to cry a little, but I got him down, and as we were walking away he looked back at the swings and waved good-bye,and I know he was okay.Then, we got in the car and headed home. We had a great day at the park!

When we got back home, I feed him, and we watched Manny and the Tools, and then Mickey Mouse on the Disney Preschool channel,and he was bobbing, and weaving with sleepiness, and right now he is napping as I type this.

Well, I spent 4 fun days with my grandson, and he definitely kept me moving, and I am pooped; because it seems like he has ten arms, ten legs and 10 feet, to my 2 and 2, lol, but today, is the day my daughter will be picking him up after she gets off work because she misses him, and she is really a great mom. I'm really proud of her for trying to stand on her own feet and handle her business. Go Angie! Go Angie!

I love my family, and I know they love me back, through the rain, sunshine, and every thing in between.

Staying Focused

Last year, I pledged my dream to published my first book of poems by March 2010, and so far I am on track with my progress.

However,in the beginning of my journey it was so hard for me to stay focused on what I wanted to accommplish, and I stumbled, and fall repeatedly. Though, after I started writing down my objectives, and using my voice recorder daily I finally got my focus back, and started making progress.

Stay focused on your Dreams

It is the second month of 2010, and we have to stay motivated to follow our dreams, and goals. I know it gets hard to stay focus on your journey because family issues, the job, and just feeling tired, or stressed, but we have to grab that sparkle of motivation within ourselves to keeping moving forward on our goals.

If your dream is important to you, you should be pursuing it. In order to accomplish your dreams you need to START making progress first. If you do not, then your dreams and goal will just remain a THOUGHT in your mind.

Get focused! Take the time to WRITE DOWN all the steps you think it will take for you to accomplish your dreams, or goals, also include the Date you want to have your dreams, and goal accomplished. However, do not include the cost of anything yet.

After you get your list prepared, keep looking over it for a couple of days, and then start to "fine-tune" this list by organizing, eliminating, and/or adding steps to get a clearer idea of what you need to focus on to begin your journey.

You may realize through this list you created that it might only take one phone call, or one class, or something very simple to get you moving in the right direction of fulfilling your dreams.

I'm on Granny Duty

I am a Granny! I admit it! Oh, lawdy! Did I really say that? yes, it's true.

When I had my children I never really thought about the fact that eventually when they grew up they would have children...
which makes me, you know....GRANDMA:)

My beautiful grandson is now 1 years old, and I am 1 year older then I was before.

During the first year I have relearned how to change a diaper,"gugu-gaga", make a bottle, find a pacificer, coach a burp out, sing nursery songs, grab the diaper bag without forgetting to grab my own purse, whew! the list goes on.

Being on Granny duty requires strategic planning, nerves of steel, multi-tasking, bonic ears, and eyes, and legs, and giving a lot of love.

I love my lil' Doda, but being on Granny duty is not an easy task but it has it's rewards because I'm able to watch him grow,teach him things, and he brightens my day with his smile, and his dancing as he loves music! I even named the lil dance he does-"Do the Doda". I'm going to get it on vid and post it soon.

Blogging. Hmm...

So many thoughts, where do I start?

My childhood...
I was born, and raised on the Detroit eastside aka (Conant Garden). It was a beautiful neighborhood. Everyone kept their lawn perfectly manicured in the summer, planted flowers, and even maintained a vegetable garden in the backyard as we did.

There was a "Mom and Pop" store on the corner, and on Sunday's they would give all the kids a couple of those little mini cookies for free- they came in all flavors like chocolate chip, vanilla, lemon , and strawberry. I always asked for the lemon, and strawberry ones which were my favorite. We called them "penny cookies" because that's how much they costed back then.

Every adult in the neighborhood was expected to give the "411" on you, and also tell you to get your butt in the house if the streetlights had came on and you were still outside playing around, and call your moma on the phone to tell her. Lawdy!!

My household consisted of my mother, father, two sisters, and one brother.
I was the youngest of my siblings, and sometimes I got babied being the "little girl", but most of the times I had to "man-up" like my siblings and do my share of household chores, and such. I was not to little to wash those dishes-"I found out early that a chair turned backwards and propped up against the sink made me a big girl".

As a kid I remember playing games like rock teacher, simon says, tv tag, 4 corners, mother may I, frozen tag, hide n seek (hide n go get it) the older kids called it, hoola hoop, hopscotch, and jacks. If you don't remember playing any of those games you missed out on the fun, as Stevie Wonder says, "I wish those days could come back once more, why did those days ever have to go", but time continued on and technology moved us far beyond face to face interactions with text messaging, tagging, and IM'ing. yes, indeed!

Just curious- When was the last time you gave a real hug, or real hand shake to your best friend?

You know everyone has their own story to tell with the ups, downs, the good, and the bad, the love, the pain, and even hatred may dwell in secret spaces, but at this time I choose not to go to those cloudy places in my life because I have made it through those times, and I can't say I will ever forget, but I can say I have forgiven, and that makes "ME" ok. I know everyone deals with pain in different ways but to forgive was the only way for me to get "myself" back, and move forward, because I can't change the past.

We can let our past hinder us,
or let go of the past and move forward, and only takes glances back to remind of why we have to keep moving forward.

I have my own family to raise now, and I try to make sure I'm there for them.
